What is Operation Smile?
Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity whose network of global volunteers are dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children and young adults. Since its founding, Operation Smile volunteers have treated more than 130,000 children born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities and the organization has a presence in 51 countries. In addition to contributing free medical treatment, Operation Smile trains local medical professionals in its partner countries and leaves behind crucial equipment to lay the groundwork for long-term self-sufficiency. Visit their website for more information: www.operationsmile.org
What is CSD SOS?
We are a group of dedicated graduate students in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at the University of Western Ontario. As Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology students of the CSD faculty, we understand the special challenges faced by children with cranio-facial anomalies living in developing countries. Ear diseases, eating difficulties and improper speech development are common resulting problems from these facial abnormalities. These children lack an appropriate, accessible, and sustainable healthcare system. We are committed to raising public awareness of and fundraising for Operation Smile. 100% of funds raised go directly to Operation Smile. Through donations, these children can have life transforming surgeries!
